What is a Yearly Well Woman Visit?

During the Yearly Well Woman Visit (also called an annual visit or a yearly gynecological exam), Dr. Merchant and her staff will update your medical history, check your vitals, perform a breast and pelvic exam, talk to you about any health concerns you may have, and perform any necessary bloodwork.

Components of a Yearly Well Woman Visit

The Yearly Well Woman exam will consist of the following components:

Update of Medical History
Check of Vitals (i.e. blood pressure, height, weight)
Breast Exam
Abdominal Exam
Pelvic Exam (a check of vulva, vagina, pelvis, uterus, ovaries)
Discussion of Your Health (i.e. sexual dysfunction, libido, exercise, nutrition, bone health, smoking cessation, birth control, pregnancy, genetic testing for cancers)
Bloodwork (if not already done that year)
Referral for Mammogram (if needed)
Referral for Bone Density Test (if needed)

This exam can detect many pelvic diseases such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, sexually transmitted diseases, and cancer of the vulva, vagina,

Breast Wellness Exam

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. When found early most women are cured. This is done by a combination of breast examination and testing, such as mammogram and breasts US. BRCA gene testing is also available especially for those women with family history of breast cancer.
